Terms of Service

Draft for legal review. The words in [square brackets] must be filled in, and a lawyer who works with children's online services should review this page before The Loop opens to the public. Delete this box when that is done.
Welcome to Self-Made Legends: The Loop ("The Loop", "Game", "Service", "we", "our" or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") cover your use of The Loop, including its game content, websites, apps, online services, virtual worlds and digital items. By creating an account or using The Loop you agree to these Terms. If you are a child, your parent or guardian agrees for you.
Our mission
The Loop should be a fun, fair and kind place for players of every skill level. We ask every player to treat others with respect, play fairly, and help keep the community welcoming.
1. Who can play
- Players under 13 can only play after a parent or legal guardian gives consent through the link we email them. Until then the account stays locked, and it is deleted if no consent arrives within 7 days.
- Players 13 and over may create an account. A parent or guardian can be linked at any time and can change the account's settings.
- If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, your parent or guardian agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
2. Accounts
You agree to give accurate information, keep your password private, keep your account secure, and tell us quickly if someone else uses it. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Do not use your real name as a username.
3. Parents are in charge
Parents and guardians can see their child's activity summary, switch chat and friend requests off, set a daily play-time limit, approve or decline friend requests and crew invitations, pause the account, and delete the account and all of its data. Settings start on the safest choices.
4. Who owns the Game
The Loop and everything in it (characters, stories, graphics, music, artwork, animation, quests, worlds, items, software and trademarks) belongs to Self-Made Legends LLC and its licensors. No ownership passes to players.
5. Your licence to play
We give you a limited, non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable licence to use The Loop for personal entertainment. You may not copy the Game, reverse engineer it, sell or trade accounts, change game files, make unauthorised versions, or exploit bugs.
6. Coins and items
- Coins and items are earned by playing. Items in the Shop are for looks only. Nothing in The Loop makes a player faster or stronger, and nothing is random or a "loot box".
- The Loop does not currently sell anything for real money. If that ever changes, parents will be asked first, and this section will be updated before it happens.
- Coins, items, XP, ranks and titles are licensed to you for use in the Game. They have no value outside it, cannot be exchanged for money, and may be changed or removed (for example to fix a bug or keep play fair).
- The rank "Self-Made Legend" can only be earned through play. It cannot be given, bought or traded.
7. How to behave
Do not cheat, hack, use bots or automation, exploit glitches, harass or threaten anyone, pretend to be staff, spread malware, or commit fraud. Do not share personal information such as real names, addresses, schools, phone numbers or other accounts, and do not ask other players for it. We may suspend or end accounts that break these rules.
8. Safety and moderation
- Chat is limited to quick-chat phrases unless a parent allows typed messages. Typed messages pass through an automatic safety filter before anyone else sees them. The filter is not perfect.
- When the filter stops a message, we record that it happened and why, but not the words, unless the message is serious enough to be reviewed by a person or another player reports it. In those cases the message and a little context are kept for a short time for a moderator to review.
- Any player can report another player. Moderators can warn, mute or remove accounts. Parents are told about changes that affect their child.
9. Names and what players create
Usernames, crew names, island names and other things you make remain yours. You give us permission to store and show them inside The Loop so the Game can work, for as long as they exist in the Game. The permission ends when you or your parent deletes the content or the account, except for copies in backups and in safety records we must keep for a limited time. We do not use children's content in advertising. Names and content may not include:
- Hate speech or harassment
- Sexual or violent content
- Anything illegal or that exploits children
- Personal information
- Malicious software, spam or scams
Content that breaks these rules can be removed at once.
10. Streaming and videos
Players may stream or make videos of their play if they follow the law, respect other people's rights, and do not suggest that we endorse them. We can withdraw this permission if it is misused. Do not show other players' personal information.
11. Changes to the Game
We may update, rebalance, reset, remove or end any feature, item, world, leaderboard, tournament or progression system to keep play fair, safe and stable. Older versions may not stay available.
12. Suspending or ending accounts
We may suspend, restrict or end an account, or remove content, for breaking these Terms, fraud, security risks or illegal activity. Parents can pause or delete a child's account at any time.
13. No promises about availability
THE LOOP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE MOST THE LAW ALLOWS, WE GIVE NO WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ABOUT SUITABILITY FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, UNINTERRUPTED SERVICE OR FREEDOM FROM ERRORS.
14. Limits on our responsibility
TO THE MOST THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA OR BUSINESS. OUR TOTAL RESPONSIBILITY IS LIMITED TO WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE PREVIOUS TWELVE MONTHS (WHICH MAY BE NOTHING). Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law, including rights of parents and children under child-privacy and consumer laws.
15. Indemnity
Adult users agree to defend and hold harmless The Loop and its owners, staff, partners and licensors from claims caused by their misuse of the Game, breaking these Terms or the law, or breaking another person's rights. This section does not apply to children.
16. Protecting our rights
We may act against copyright or trademark infringement, unauthorised game servers, piracy and unauthorised changes to the software, including ending accounts and taking legal action.
17. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use and protect it, how long we keep it, and the rights parents and players have, including the right to see, correct and delete information.
18. Disagreements
Talk to us first. Before starting any legal claim, please contact us and try to settle it informally: info@selfmadelegendsz.com or ceo@selfmadelegendsz.com, or write to Legal Department, The Loop, Self-Made Legends LLC, [Business address]. We will work with you in good faith.
Adults: arbitration and class waiver. If you are an adult using The Loop for yourself, then except where the law forbids it, a dispute about the Game, your account, digital items, the services, these Terms or privacy matters will be settled by binding individual arbitration with a recognised arbitration provider, not in court, and not as a class, mass or representative action. The arbitrator decides whether this clause applies. You may opt out within 30 days of creating your account by emailing ceo@selfmadelegendsz.com with the subject "Arbitration Opt-Out Request". Opting out does not affect your access to The Loop.
Children and parents. This arbitration clause and class waiver do not apply to players who are under the age of adulthood where they live, or to a parent or guardian acting for a child, and they never limit rights a child or parent has under child-protection, privacy or consumer law.
Always allowed. Either side may go to small-claims court where eligible, ask a court for urgent temporary relief, enforce intellectual-property rights, or report a matter to a regulator. Some places do not allow mandatory arbitration or class waivers; where that is so, the part concerned does not apply to you. [Lawyer to review this whole section: enforceability varies by place.]
19. Governing law and where cases are heard
These Terms and any dispute about them or about The Loop are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Unless the law forbids it and subject to section 18, legal actions must be brought only in the state or federal courts in Jackson County, Missouri, and you agree to those courts' jurisdiction. If you use The Loop from outside the United States, you are responsible for following your local laws, and nothing in these Terms removes consumer-protection rights you have where you live that cannot be waived. If any part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest stays in force.
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will tell you about important changes through in-game notices, the website, and email to parents where appropriate. If a change affects children, parents will be asked again where the law requires it. Using the Game after a change means you accept it.

22. Persistent worlds
The Loop has a persistent online world with progression, achievements, rankings, quests, crews, tournaments and an in-game economy that uses earned coins. We may reset, rebalance, change or end any of these systems at any time to keep play fair and the Game secure and stable. Virtual achievements, rankings, XP, titles and items have no real-world value and may be changed or removed.
